Downstairs Bar
We’ve recently aquired a pool table at Kafka. The only place that the pool table ended up fitting was in the room that held the downstairs bar. Morgan decided that the bar needed to be moved (and redesigned) in order to make space for the pool table.
We decided to use two operative words in the design of the bar, “empty” and “full”. The bar space consists of two rooms joined by an archway. One is “empty” and one is “full”. In “Empty” we decided to strip the wall down to the concrete and keep everything bare. In “Full”, we dug up all of the scrap material we had laying around, visited constructions sites and asked for material (thanks Melissa), and then screwed it all to the wall.
As for the bar itself, we disassembled it and rearranged it to fit into the new space. We wanted to keep the original bar surface as a bit of history so it ended up being a bit patchy… but hey that’s what we were going for. It is actually two different bar lengths with an entry in between. One length is used to make drinks and the other is used to hold the refrigerator and to serve beer.
So this is the only photo you get right now, but it gives you a decent idea of what’s going on. The bar at this point is operational, but needs a bit more work to be finished. I will post more (including working drawings… no CD’s on this one, established a few critical measurements and winged it from there) when it is complete.
